Texture Energy, a leading provider of energy trading and rebate management software, was experiencing rapid growth in both small business and enterprise segments. Their platform aggregates telemetry data from distributed energy devices and connects with multiple manufacturer APIs to deliver real-time insights on trading and rebate operations.

Originally hosted on Render, the existing infrastructure struggled to keep up with growth, offering limited scalability, inefficient cost management, and inadequate security and compliance controls for enterprise-grade customers.

Texture needed to:

• Migrate from Render to AWS while maintaining platform uptime and data integrity.
• Increase onboarding speed for new subscribers, especially small and mid-market customers.
• Support enterprise clients requiring full tenant isolation and advanced compliance (GDPR readiness for European expansion).
• Optimize cloud costs across environments and workloads.
• Ensure strict data privacy, access control, and auditability under growing regulatory requirements.

The Solution

Texture selected UTurn Data Solutions, an AWS Advanced Tier Consulting Partner, to architect and implement a modernized, secure, and scalable SaaS foundation on AWS.

Phase 1: Cloud Foundation – Secure Multi-Account Architecture

UTurn began by designing a multi-account AWS architecture leveraging AWS Control Tower to enforce governance, security guardrails, and compliance standards. This foundation enabled clear separation between environments—development, staging, and production—while ensuring centralized management and auditing.

• AWS Control Tower: Established a governed multi-account structure with compliance guardrails.
• Flexible Tenant Isolation Model: Designed hybrid deployment patterns supporting both multi-tenant and single-tenant environments for different customer tiers.
• Identity Integration: Implemented AWS Identity Center with Okta for federated user access and centralized identity management.

Phase 2: Infrastructure Modernization & Automation

UTurn implemented Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) using OpenTofu, ensuring consistent, automated deployment of all environments. A three-tier IaC design—modules, stacks, and projects—was used for modularity and scalability.

• Container Orchestration: Adopted Amazon EKS to efficiently run containerized workloads across tenants while maintaining logical isolation.
• Data Services: Leveraged Aurora PostgreSQL for relational data, S3 Intelligent-Tiering for media and file storage, and ElastiCache for Redis to optimize performance.
• DevOps Automation: Integrated Argo CD to automate continuous deployment pipelines, ensuring consistency across environments.
• Networking & Cost Control: Configured AWS Transit Gateway for secure inter-account networking and implemented cost allocation tags for per-tenant billing transparency.

This architecture positioned Texture for both operational agility and long-term sustainability—reducing manual overhead while improving visibility, governance, and performance.
