The Challenge

Founded in 2014, Fantasmo provides a camera-based positioning system (CPS)—a groundbreaking alternative to GPS that delivers hyper-accurate location data for urban mobility, robotics, AR, and navigation applications.

As Fantasmo’s platform scaled, its Azure-based infrastructure struggled to keep pace with growth. GPU availability constraints, manual container management, and limited orchestration capabilities were slowing innovation and impacting application performance.

To continue supporting a global customer base—including major e-scooter operators and mobility providers—Fantasmo needed a flexible, scalable, and high-performance cloud foundation that could handle compute-intensive workloads, reduce operational complexity, and ensure global availability.

Key challenges included:

  • Difficulty scaling compute and GPU resources due to Azure availability and global chip shortages.
  • Lack of container orchestration and automation, resulting in high management overhead.
  • Need to scale front-end and back-end services independently for optimal performance.

Phase 1: Rapid Cloud Migration with Rocketry Rapid Launch

UTurn deployed its Rocketry Rapid Launch framework—an enterprise-grade, Terraform-based AWS onboarding methodology—to deliver a secure, well-architected, and production-ready environment in under three months.
